Our 911 Voice of Assurance

Life … sometimes it’s just too much.

And we’re not talking good stuff, either. Bills to pay. The next health scare. Covid …

“What will happen if the business shuts down again? I barely survived on my unemployment benefits last time.”

We’ve emptied the change jar, visited every food pantry, and begged rides from our coworkers until we’re afraid to ask again. Put something back for a rainy day? Like it’s not pouring down even as we speak.

At times like this, it helps to find familiar ground. Psalm 121:1-2 is our voice of encouragement.

“I lift my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Jesus on speed dial. 911 to our rescue. Just a prayer away.

However, just like with 911, we have a part to play, also.

First, we must look up from our problem … lift our eyes to the hills. We must see the situation as it is, a situation, not our life. We must acknowledge that Jesus has power greater than what we’ve let have power over us.

Then, when Jesus picks up the line, we tell him all about it. We hold nothing back. Street number, what has us concerned, even the events we think don’t matter.

Then we let Jesus work out arranging help, sending the rescue, sorting out the problem as he sees fit.

When we turn our situation over to Jesus, he gives us his assurance that he is in control.

Let’s turn to Jesus. He is always there for us every time we call on him.

It's the time we spend with God that tells him how much we love him.
