Wouldn’t it be nice to have a built-in 9-1-1 button on our phone?
One that’s dedicated just to us?
Like a credit card that guarantees everything we buy, no matter how it gets damaged … or even lost … even if we’re careless.
Or a car warranty that covers everything. Just press the button, and we have a replacement car ready and waiting while ours is in the shop.
We do have those things, those built-in rescue clauses. The button on our phone, the credit card guarantee, even the warranty that gives us a replacement car to drive. They are perks to attract business.
One company compared their rescue clause to a woman wearing a shoe. She breaks a heel, and before she can get the shoe off, a hand reaches into view and hands her a replacement shoe.
That’s exactly what God does for us.
Psalm 37:40 gives us our rescue clause.
“The Lord helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.”
Here’s what you must get from this verse. We must buy the right phone, carry the premium credit card, and drive the luxury brand to get our 9-1-1 guarantees. They don’t come with the cheap stuff.
For us to invoke God’s rescue clause, we must choose to take refuge in him.
That’s it. There’s no other way. We must accept salvation through Christ, live by God’s standards, and place our trust in him.
Then God’s rescue clause becomes ours, and he will deliver us from every wicked thing. Cheaters. Liars. People who gossip about us behind our back. God. Will. Rescue. Us. That’s in our contract, and we can count on it.
We are never on our own when we walk side by side with Jesus.
