A broken flashlight is a problem.
It doesn’t produce any light. No matter how many times you click the switch, you won’t see any better than before. The battery has been worn down by repeated usage, and it’s no good for lighting your way.
We’re like that when life pulls us down. We’re forced to smile when we’re broken, laugh when we should be crying, and hold the hands of the hurting when we need our hand held instead.
Our feet stumble in the darkness, and there’s no light we can find.
Psalm 119:105 tells us we can find that light in our Lord.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Get a set of promise scriptures. Google Bible verses for hope. Find a favorite website that blogs encouraging stories combined with uplifting scriptures.
Here’s the trick: You can’t be encouraged by Bible verses you don’t know are there. You must expose yourself to the best you can find.
Here are a few to start you off:
- Deuteronomy 31:8 says the Lord will never leave you.
- Psalm 23:4 promises he will comfort you.
- Psalm 145:18 assures you he is there when you call on him.
- Isaiah 41:10 tells you he will strengthen you.
- John 16:33 encourages you to take heart, for the Lord has overcome every problem.
- 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 is your guarantee that life cannot destroy what God wants to do in you.
God lights your way. He is your encourager. He will help you through every tough time. You can depend on him.
God is the lifter of your head and the smile you thought lost. Believe on him and be strong.
