We can feel lonely in a crowd.
At a party filled with joyous revelers, a sense of disconnect can overtake us, leaving us isolated emotionally . . . even if we wear a smile on our face.
Our family time can be the same. Everyone else has a purpose, we struggle to fit in, and the distance between them and us grows greater.
A wall comes up, and we’re trapped inside. We pretend so no one notices, but the person at our side might as well be on the far side of the moon.
Even God seems to hide behind the clouds and the stars, refusing to listen to our cries for help.
Jeremiah 23:23-24 says otherwise, that our Lord is always at our side.
“Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.”
Our solution is to find a quiet place away from the crowds. In a closet. Down a forest path. Along a deserted beach. Somewhere we can step away from the world and get in touch with our Creator.
He’s waiting on us. All we need to do is reach out to him.
God is our faithful companion and always at our side.
