A hacking cough is no laughing matter.
That sinus drip? We want it gone.
Then there’s an ache in our back and scratchy eyes; and soon we know the flu is here to stay.
Maybe it’s worse, something that affects us in a drastic way. Our appendix is inflamed, our tonsils need removed, or we hear the dreaded word … tumor.
We go into panic mode. We feel the floor fall from under our feet, and we are adrift in despair.
God says, “Not so! You’re not alone. I’m by your side.”
James 5:14-16 tells us what to do when sickness rolls over us and we’re certain there’s no cure for us.
“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”
We learn three major things in this passage.
- First, we get through this together. It’s a joint effort. With God as our center, we are surrounded by the love of the Body.
- Second, our physical healing is directly connected to our spiritual healing. Our prayer of faith will not only ease our sickness, it will clear our slate of wrong deeds.
- Third, this only works if we are living righteously. How? We read the Bible and do what it says. That’s direct from Harold Herring, the president of The Debt Free Army and an anointed teacher of God’s Word.
Let’s step out on faith, place our trust in the Father, and band together as a team.
It’s in striving together that we make our lives better.
God calls us to be healed. Let’s accept all of it.
