When we’re at the top of our game, the world’s our oyster. We’re living the high life, and there’s no mountain we can’t see over.
We’re coming up roses, and the jackpot’s ours to claim.
Yet what happens when our bulwarks of success and self-sufficiency begin to give way? Where do we turn then?
Psalm 46:1-3 gives us a place to withdraw into the arms of safety:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us he will fortify us by his Spirit:
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
Psalm 16:8 teaches us how to remain at the top of our game:
“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.”
Psalm 55:22 assures us we no longer need worry about our future:
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
1 Peter 5:7 reaffirms the love of Christ:
“[Cast] all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
Isaiah 26:3 is the assurance of a caring, heavenly Father who desires the very best for his children:
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
When life goes well, it’s easy to place our trust in our degrees, our bank accounts, and our political connections. When those things begin to fail us, we have a refuge waiting in the arms of our Savior.
There is no permanent security unless we rest in the arms of our Lord.
