Rising Above the Waters

The aftermath of Hurricane Debby in 2024 left parts of Sarasota, Florida, inundated.

The neighborhood of Laurel Meadows, an upscale community in Sarasota, saw all 86 homes flooded.

Reports said that only three homeowners carried flood insurance.

How do you recover from that? The losses are life changing. In a day, all your plans, investments, and worldly treasures are wiped out.

How do you move ahead?

Sometimes, platitudes, no matter how inspirational, aren’t enough to lift up us from what has brought us down.

Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us:

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” NIV

At times like this, our only fallback is to place our hand in God’s outstretched hand and be comforted by his love.

Isaiah 40:8 goes on to say:

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” NIV

Our homes will go underwater. Our fortunes will collapse. Our plans will come to nothing. However, in our despair, the Word of God remains!

The struggle to recover may be long, but God’s Word is there! Inside, we can find his truth, his comfort, and his plan for our lives.

Take comfort in God and his written Word. Let him give you strength. You will get through this, for in him, you are graced with the power to forge ahead!
