Did God Really Say That?

English Audio Version

Some things are unbelievable.

We know what we’ve heard, but the enormity of what it suggests is too much to take in.

In the early 2000s, the highway connecting Fort Worth, Texas, with the outlying suburb of Azle needed an upgrade. The highway was a lifeline connecting the two cities. It bisected a lake and miles of open land.

There was no easy way to get from one city to the other without the highway.

When the state highway department made their recommendation on what to do with the ageing concrete road, they proposed to take out the highway.

The people of Azle stopped in the streets, agog; and the question hanging in the air was, “Did they really say that?”

And yes, they did, and yes, they took out the highway, creating a traffic snarl and crushing real estate values in the smaller city for over a decade.

Now let’s turn to Deuteronomy 11:15.

“And he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full.”

Here are three things we can take from this verse:

1. He will place grass in our fields. In modern terms, we will have opportunities at our doorstep. They will be there for the taking.

2. We will have livestock in our fields. These are how we take advantage of God’s opportunities, with God as our enabler.

3. We will eat and be full. Our work, our investments, the opportunities we jump into will bring an abundant return.

Now, back to our question: Did God really say that?

Yes, he did, and yes, he will do as he promised.

Let’s step outside our door. God’s offer of success is waiting on us.
