Oh, woe is me!
Isn’t that how some Christians are? The hardships of life are their constant companion.
We arrive early for the morning service, and we overhear this:
“My pool man couldn’t make it yesterday, and I’m having people over this afternoon. How could this happen?”
“If I could only make my car payment and pay my tithes too.”
“The store was out of toilet tissue again. What am I going to do?”
“The Johnsons have a new house . . . again. Why not me?”
“I wish the pastor would visit me when I’m sick. I deserve more of his attention.”
“I couldn’t get the bank to extend my loan. I might lose the business. Where is God when I need him?”
Wait! These sound a bit like whining, or at least excess chatter that doesn’t belong in a Christian’s conversation.
God wants us to keep on the positive side. He’s already promised to meet our needs, so let’s get our hands in the air and praise him.
Matthew 6:8 tells us:
“Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
The world schemes and parries to sort the world to their advantage. That’s not the Christian’s place. God is our provider. No beggar’s rags for us. We place our trust in him.
All good things flow from the Father to those who worship him.
