We remember the gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? for the lifelines contestants could use when they didn’t know the answer.
One was to call a friend, get a second opinion, and hopefully move on to the next round.
The real question for the contestant became, did they trust their lifeline? Did they believe their lifeline was offering them valid aid?
Were they more likely to win with or without the help of their lifeline?
John 20:29 reveals the lifeline Thomas used to secure his relationship with the Lord.
“Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’ ”
Thomas believed because he touched the hands of the Master and knew the scars were from the cross. Thomas had his lifeline on speed dial, and Jesus showed up just in time.
What about the rest of us? Jesus isn’t just “showing up” at our prayer meetings, arriving in the flesh, and offering us his hands so we can inspect his scars.
Where’s our lifeline?
This verse says we are blessed more than Thomas when we believe in Christ despite never having touched the palms of his hands.
The contestants on the gameshow could dial up their lifeline on the phone. We dial up Jesus through prayer, often on our knees.
He responds to us when we do, with advice, love, and compassion for the troubles we go through.
Let’s find our lifeline in God. We become a millionaire in him when we do.
