Doctors determine the final moment of life occurs when our heart stops beating.
That’s when the spirit that animates us leaves our body.
We’re alive as long as our spirit dwells inside. We can walk, talk, breathe, communicate, feel, and know what it means to be human.
Our physical form is more than blood and bones. It’s the spirit inside that makes us into a complete human being. Without the spirit, we are leftover flesh bound for decay.
Spiritually, we face the same conundrum. We read of it in James 2:26.
“For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.”
Our faith is like our flesh. It’s our animated being, out there and acting upon the world for good. However, there’s a second part of us that gives our faith life.
Our works.
Once our works are no longer present, our spirit no longer walks, talks, breathes, communicates, feels, or knows what it’s like to be connected to God.
We become dead spiritually. Our faith alone can’t sustain our relationship with the Father. Our works for him do.
Let’s get busy for God. It’s what keeps us alive in him.
