An old mantra was the need to “find ourselves.”
That meant to discard the things important to other people and decide what made us “tick.”
Like an old fashion windup clock. Tick, tick. Today, tomorrow. Get out of bed, catch the morning train . . . into the city . . . back home by seven.
Is that what we want out of life? Are we working machines, good for nothing but earning a paycheck?
Then we learned we were supposed to retire early. Check off our bucket list before we check out of life. Can’t get started too soon when life could end at any time.
Now we’re into downsizing and decluttering. Tiny homes! Live cheap and follow your dreams now!
The Word says all we need in order to find ourselves is to live a righteous life.
Isaiah 32:17 says:
“And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.”
Certainly, work closer to home. That city commute will be obnoxious, no matter what.
Retire early, if you can. As long as you are punching the clock, your days belong to someone else.
You can even toss out the McLifestyle and quit keeping up with your neighbors. Your life is about you.
In all of these, however, if you miss the “Jesus Spot,” you will still chafe at life . . . or it will chafe at you.
Peace comes in making God’s standards our own. When we live righteously—by the teachings of the Bible—God will bless us with an inner peace. We will bask in the quietness of his presence, and we will find our trust in him is secure.
Walk with God, and he will take your hand and walk with you.
