The Rules of God’s Kingdom

English Audio Version

Guidelines are very useful.

Think traffic, if you don’t agree. If we had no guidelines, no traffic laws, no rules of the road, it would be chaos on the streets.

No one would be required to stop at a stop sign, yields would be suggested, and speed limits? Nope, not there, even in a school zone.

Your life is your own to risk, if you decide to step out into the street.

How about finances and investments? Disclosures? Do we want to know we’re investing in a pyramid scheme, or is a smile and a handshake good enough?

And marriage, no guidelines, right? Do what you want, even if your spouse gets hurt in the process? How about your children? Do their needs matter? Not if we toss out our guidelines.

Life would be a morass of impulses, dark desires, and struggling to come out on top. Misery would abound.

That’s why God’s guidelines are so important.

1 Peter 3:12-14 says:

“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled.”

We can pull six rules from this passage.

Rule No. 1: We must be righteous.

God’s standard is our rule and requirement.

Rule No. 2: We must be in prayer.

Our time in prayer is our connection with God.

Rule No. 3: We must resist evil.

Evil will try to root in our lives and must be continually sliced away.

Rule No. 4: We must be zealous for good.

Doing good when it is convenient isn’t enough. Search out every opportunity.

Rule No. 5: We must kick out fear.

Fear will paralyze us. Boot it out in the name of our Lord.

Rule No. 6: We must close the door to worry.

If we are troubled by worry, we are ineffectual for the Kingdom. Put the future in the hands of God.

Road rage quashed, financial investments protected, families safe-guarded, misery out the window. Rules work. As rule-followers of Christ, our lives will become better every day.

Live by God’s standards, and he will watch over us.
